Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival honors films from around the world at this annual spring event in the south of France. The famed Golden Palm (or Palm D'Or) is the coveted prize at this festival. Directors, producers, movie stars and journalists convene to take in the world's top cinematic productions, as they have since the event started in 1946. The most recent winners are Das weisse Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte (2009) and Entre les murs (2008), while other previous winners include L'Enfant (2005), Pulp Fiction (1994), The Pianist (2002) and Farehheit 9/11 (2004). The festival celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2007.
