The years 1894-1915 were ones of great change in the United States. Industrialism and immigration changed lives dramatically, and decreasing work hours left many people with more leisure time.
This exhibit from the Library of Congress includes many films that captured the essence of these years in America. In addition to the text-based historical background, you can use a media player to watch many of the scores of films. The exhibit is divided into three sections: Work, School and Leisure. Check out the families playing at Coney Island, students in an Indian day school, or workers in a New York City fish market.
